Auto Body Shops in Colorado | Prestige Imports Releases Car Financing ... - PR Inside

2009-12-18 22:56:51 - Auto body shops in Colorado. Prestige Imports releases public service announcement to summarize new car financing tips.

Denver, Colorado, December 17, 2009 - Prestige Imports Collision Repair Center today released an educational public service announcement on the topic of new car financing. As a company whose business centers on automobiles, Prestige Imports Collision Repair Center maintains an active interest in all aspects of car ownership and regularly participates in providing its customers and the community with information

that impacts their automobile ownership.

On the topic of new car financing, 3 main areas of attention are recommended:

1) Perform Research
- The use of free online car financing calculators provides consumers with a convenient method to input their personal financial data and narrow their target budget for making a car purchase.
- Perhaps the most important types of research concerns the prospective automobile itself and ensuring that the purchased automobile meets the buyer's needs.
- Leasing or buying a car are both options for many consumers today and in order to determine the best method for them consumers are advised to investigate the pros and cons of each approach.

2) Maintain Financial Discipline
- Be realistic about your budget range and be prepared to stick to it in the course of your car buying process.
- In most cases it will be helpful to compare interest rates and financing terms from multiple sources such as banks, finance companies, credit unions, as well as the dealership.
- In negotiations it's usually best to focus on the vehicle price rather than monthly payments. A few extra dollars in a monthly payment may not seem like much but it can add a significant amount to the total paid over the life of the loan.

3) Pay Attention to your Credit
- If you credit is good then make sure it stays that way after the purchase by making payments on time.
- If circumstances such as the loss of employment ever affect your ability to repay the loan, be sure to contact the creditor to explore the possibility of arranging alternate payment terms.

The Prestige Imports Collision Repair Center is open Monday through Saturday. Additional information about services is available at the company's website at www.denver-auto-body.com.

Passer-by sees fire, rouses sleeping man in home - FireEngineering.com

Posted: 18 Dec 2009 01:49 PM PST

By Jen Lynds, Bangor Daily News, Maine

Dec. 18--FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine -- Firefighters from three towns spent nearly eight hours Wednesday evening working to extinguish a blaze that the fire chief said was "nearly a fatal."

Fire Chief Paul Durepo said Thursday that his department received a call at 4 p.m. Wednesday of a fire at 277 Presque Isle Road.

The property was home to Roger's Auto Repair. When firefighters arrived, a building on the property, which was separate from the auto body shop, was on fire. Roger York, the shop's owner, lived in the building.

"A passer-by noticed the fire," the chief said Thursday. "Mr. York was asleep inside the building. The passer-by ran inside the building, woke him up and got him out of there. He was very lucky because this was nearly a fatal fire."

Durepo said that the building did not have smoke detectors.

Firefighters from Presque Isle and Limestone joined the Fort Fairfield crew at the scene.

"When we got to the scene, the roof had collapsed and fire was billowing out of the windows and doors," he said. "We had to attack it from the outside. It was pretty much a total loss."

The chief said that the below-zero wind chill was an obstacle in fighting the fire.

Durepo said that firefighters were on the scene until midnight.

He said the building was valued at $15,000 and was not insured.

York is now staying with a relative.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but Durepo said the State Fire Marshal's Office has not been called.

Midland labor market stays stable as retailers begin holiday hiring - My West Texas

Posted: 18 Dec 2009 01:35 PM PST

Midland's labor market remained stable from October to November, according to figures released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission.

The commission reported that the Midland metropolitan statistical area (MSA) had an unemployment rate of 5.6 percent in November, down from 5.8 percent in October but well above the 3 percent reported last November when Midland spent nearly 60 months with the state's lowest unemployment rate. Midland's 5.6 percent unemployment ranked it third among Texas MSAs, behind Amarillo with 5.3 percent and Lubbock with 5.4 percent. Odessa reported an unemployment rate of 8.5 percent, down from 8.9 percent in October.

Robert Crawley, a labor market analyst in the commission's Austin office, said the decline in the unemployment rate was due largely to a 200-person drop in the number of unemployed Midlanders from October to November. He said he wasn't sure if those 200 people found jobs, left the market or stopped looking for jobs.

Midland's job count of 69,600 nonagricultural jobs was unchanged from October to November but has declined by 2,100 jobs or 2.9 percent in the 12 months from November 2008 to November 2009. Three industrial sectors reported changes from October to November, with 100-job gains seen in trade, transportation and utilities and in other services (services like auto repair, computer or business machine repair, barber shops and funeral homes, among others). Those gains were offset by a 200-job loss in the mining, logging and construction sector, which includes oil and natural gas.

Crawley said the retail sector added 100 jobs as stores prepared for the holiday season.

"It's a stable labor market, showing some slight changes for the holiday season," he said.

Albert Salazar, manager of the Midland Target store, said he hired fewer new workers for the holiday season than last year, hiring 30 as opposed to approximately 40 last year. Concerns about the economy prompted the decline in hiring, he said.

"It turns out we're having a better Christmas than we expected and could use more help," he said, saying the store has exceeded expectations by about 6 to 7 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment rate fell to 8 percent from October's 8.3 percent, the first decline since June 2008, when unemployment dipped to 4.4 percent from 4.5 percent, commission officials said. The state added 17,300 jobs in November, with the most added in mining, logging and construction.

Auto Body Shop in Denver | Prestige Imports Releases Auto Warranty ... - PR Inside

Posted: 18 Dec 2009 11:47 AM PST

2009-12-18 20:49:04 - Established auto body shop in Denver releases new public service announcement summarizing automobile warranties to inform consumers on auto warranty types and their purpose.

Denver, Colorado, December 17, 2009 - Prestige Imports Collision Repair Center today released a public service announcement on the topic of automobile warranties, their structure, and what they cover. As a company whose business centers on automobiles, Prestige Imports Collision Repair Center maintains an active interest in all aspects of car ownership and participates in educating its customers on issues

that impact their ownership.

According to automobile industry resource Edmunds.com, all new vehicles sold in the US have at least two auto warranties, sometimes also including roadside assistance coverage. The most basic automobile warranty covers most if not all items with the exception of those subject to wear and tear. Items not covered include oil filters, wiper blades, and things of a similar nature. The federal government mandates that emissions components be covered for two years or 24,000 miles at a minimum, and some items may be covered much longer. Tires and batteries are among items that often have their own separate warranty coverage. These are typically outlined in the owner's manual.

Drivetrain warranties are another commonly referred to category. Drivetrain warranties essentially cover the parts that make the vehicle move. Included in this category is the car's engine, transmission, drive axles and driveshaft. The specifics of a vehicle's drivetrain warranty will usually be described in the owner's manual. Typically parts subject to wear and tear like hoses and belts may not be covered, however, other internal parts of the engine, such as pistons and bearings are covered.

Rust/corrosion and roadside assistance warranty coverage round out the other major warranty categories. A rust or corrosion warranty protects car owners from rust-through problems. Preventative care for the car can help minimize occurrences. Roadside assistance is a type of warranty coverage that manufacturers can provide in the event of being stranded. An owner's manual or automobile dealership can provide additional information about these services.

The Prestige Imports Collision Repair Center is open Monday through Saturday. Additional information about services is available at the company's website at www.denver-auto-body.com.

Star athlete's dreams shattered after bizarre accident - Toronto Star

Posted: 18 Dec 2009 11:55 AM PST

It all happened in a horrifying split second and, three months later, Anthony Lue still can't quite believe it.

"I should be dead," he said.

Lue's voice cracks as he recounts the events of a bizarre and near fatal industrial accident that has left him in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the waist down.

The dreams of the 21-year-old former Pickering High School student are in tatters. There was a time when he aspired to major league baseball, or even compete for Canada in the hurdles at the Olympics. In high school, he was a multi-sport star and an athlete of the year.

With his parents and family at his bedside daily, he was treated at first at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and now at the Lyndhurst Centre, a facility known for spinal cord rehabilitation.

The memories of the accident, that saw Lue crushed inside a car at a recycling facility, are still horrifying raw to him.

"It's a miracle that I'm still talking about this," he said. "A few more inches and, well, I wouldn't be here."

Lue had been working as a mechanical apprentice at Auto Boyz, a specialty car repair shop, which delivered scrap vehicles for recycling.

On the day of the accident, he had driven a 1989 Oldsmobile from the shop to nearby K and K Recycling Company. While he was in still in the car, it was pushed on to a scale used to weigh vehicles for scrap metal.

Something then went horribly wrong.

An overhead crane operator, presuming no one was in the vehicle, began to crush it.

Nino Baggieri, owner of Auto Boyz, was standing nearby as the accident happened.

"The crane, it's like a six foot disk in diameter and weighs around 20 tons, swung around and hit the car on an angle," recalled Baggieri. "If it had dropped straight down, he'd be dead. Then another crane, with jaws, lifted the car."

"There was miss-communication somewhere," recalled Lue, who said he was conscious but couldn't recall for how long. "He dropped a big magnet and it crushed the passenger side. Then the car was picked up and someone had said that I was still in it. The car was dropped enough to make an impact."

At first, the damage Lue suffered appeared minimal; he only had a minor cut on his finger. But he couldn't feel his legs.

After being airlifted to Sunnybrook, Lue underwent surgery to stabilize his back.

He had sustained a broken back, a fractured neck, broken ribs and spinal cord damage.

"They said I'll be in a wheelchair forever," said Lue.

"But they don't know me, my desire, and with all the medical research, I don't give up that easy. It sucks what happened to me, and it may have been an accident, but I'm not one to hold grudges and I have a new life to live."

His mother Marcia had been picking up a daughter when she received a cell phone call urging her to get to her son's job location.

"Everyone was frantic when I got there," she said. "A firefighter said he was alive, but I didn't realize that they were talking about my son. In the hospital, he knew I was there but he was traumatized. I can't forget that car ... it was crushed and I thought how close he came to brain damage."

"Doctors said it was horrific, we were lucky and he would never walk again. But I told them that one day they will see a miracle and he will walk."

The Ontario Ministry of Labour is investigating the accident and K and K Recycling president Kevin Morgan was not available for comment.

Marcia Lue has retained the Toronto law firm of Singer Kwinter.

"It's an absolute tragedy what happened and (K and K) hasn't admitted liability," said lawyer Jason Singer, who has been in contact with the Labour Ministry and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board of Ontario.

"(Anthony) will need attendant care, home modification and more to care for him. I know we hear of miraculous stories, but it's too early to tell now."

Baggieri said Lue came to his firm 11 months ago looking for an opportunity to work.

"A great kid, very ambitious and wanting to learn," he said.

Lue had a fondness for cars, but he was also quite the athlete.

An outfielder with the Pickering high school team that won the Blue Jays-sponsored Prentice Cup, he also was a defensive back with the school's football team that won a Metro Bowl.

But it was his performance on the track that had coach Cyril Sahadath beaming.

In 2004, Lue set a provincial record in the junior boys' 100 metre hurdles and had a partial scholarship offer from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. Nursing an injury at the time, he chose instead to work – while completing his studies at Durham Alternative School in Oshawa – and save up enough money to help with his university education.

"He excelled in sports, he was a gamer and was always on the go," recalled Sahadath. "What happened was devastating, people were shocked, but (Lue) has this relentless passion to do well and I believe will be the next Rick Hansen because he's that type of person."

When Hansen was 15-years-old, he sustained a spinal cord injury as a result of a car accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. The Rick Hansen Foundation has raised more than $200 million for projects, awareness and research.
