New in Cape business: Lou's Total Car Care - News-Press

Posted: 13 Jan 2010 11:52 AM PST

11:27 A.M. — Lou Moralez realizes that his shop is not the only full automotive repair center in Cape Coral. But what he can't figure out is why anyone would take their business any place else.

"We're one of the lowest labor rate shops in the area," Moralez said. "We don't have to pay major overhead or royalty fees."

Moralez, who owns Lou's Total Car Care, which is located at 2023 Del Prado Blvd., said his rates are anywhere from 15 to 20 percent lower than most shops.

"We also have lenders, offer towing, will pickup and drop off (the customer) and will get discounts on rental (cars)," he said. "Anything that helps the individual out we're here for. I can't tell you how many customers have my personal cell phone number."

While Moralez said the low rates help bring customers through the door, it's their personal touch that keeps them coming back.

"When you go to the big corporations, you're just a number," he said. "Bottom line, you come to our shop and the customers get accustomed to working with an individual."

To help assure customers that his mechanics aren't slapping on unneeded repairs, Moralez said he lets them know his mechanics work off salary, not commission.

"There are too many shops out there trying to make a dollar," he said.

The ASE certified five-garage shop works on both domestic and imports and offers a 13-point vehicle maintenance schedule special for 30,000, 60,000 and 90,000 miles.

The special includes: oil and filter change, lubricate chassis, rotate tires and check air pressure, replace air filter, replace fuel filter, fuel system cleaning and induction service, transmission service that changes the fluid and filter, coolant system flush, replacement of spark plugs, break inspection and adjustment, belt and hose inspection, an all fluid check and a complete car physical.

The special costs $329 for 4-cylinder vehicles, $359 for 6-cylinder and $389 for 8-cylinder.

Moralez said regardless of what the customer brings their automobile in for, they run the make, model, and mileage of the vehicle through a computer program that produces its manufacturer's suggested maintenance recommendations.

"The customers are trusting us with their second largest investment," he said. "They trust us with their car and money. I have to make their problems go away."

Moralez said he's been in the auto repair business for 35 years and decided to expand his family run business to Cape Coral after realizing many of the customers coming to his Fort Myers location lived in the Cape.

He said they work on anywhere from 50 to 75 cars a week in the Cape, despite the economy.

While he said some customers are dealing with hardships, he works with them as much as he can, financially, to get their automobile back on the road and running safely.

"We're all in this together," he said.

Monro Has the Right Parts at the Right Time - Bloggingstocks.com

Posted: 13 Jan 2010 12:00 PM PST

Monro Muffler Brake Inc. (MNRO), first recommended on March 27, 2009 at a price of $26.01, has pulled-back in recent weeks, but investors should view the retreat as a Buy opportunity, and I'm obviously Reiterating my Buy rating. Here's why:

The auto/vehicle repair sector's fundamentals and U.S. economic conditions remain favorable for MNRO. Pinched budgets mean new car sales will not return to normal levels any time soon, which means many Americans will be driving their five-year and eight-year used cars longer, triggering increased maintenance transactions, to Monro's benefit. Ditto regarding the trend toward used car purchases instead of new car purchases, which many Americans can't afford right now.

Look for 2010 revenue to increase an excellent 15-18%, after a near-double digit rise in 2009. The First Call FY2009/FY2010 EPS estimates for MNRO are $1.49 to $1.82.

The risks with MNRO? Ironically, a better-than-expected U.S. economic recovery would hurt Monro, as it would increase new car sales, eliminating a portion of the company's business.

Technically, as noted, Monro's shares have retreated about $3 after hitting a new, 52-week high at/near $35, but the uptrend remains in place; hence, view the pull-back as a Buy opportunity.

2010 Outlook: Monro is a long-term play: Don't Buy MNRO if you're looking to close your position by the end of 2010, as the risk/return is not favorable.

Stock Analysis: Monro Muffler Brake Inc. is a moderate-risk stock. If you've already purchased the company's shares, hold them. If not, and you plan to hold MNRO shares longer than one year, consider buying a 25% position in MNRO now; then buy another 25% in one month. Under any circumstance, don't buy more than 50% of your MNRO position before March 2010. Sell/Stop Loss if you were to buy shares in this company: $17.

Disclosure: Lazzaro has no positions in stocks, but does own shares in two Pimco Bond Funds: PHDAX and PYMAX.

Arrowhead Ranch to hold winter vehicle auction on Jan. 23 - Quad Cities Onlines

Posted: 13 Jan 2010 10:05 AM PST

Press release submitted by Arrowhead Ranch

Coal Valley, IL â€" January 12, 2010 â€" Arrowhead’s 8th Annual Winter Vehicle Auction will take place on Saturday, January 23, 2010 in the William E. Nelson Auto Shop at 12200 104th St, Coal Valley, IL. More than 50 vehicles will be auctioned, making it one of Arrowhead’s largest winter auctions to date.

“Since 2003 we added a winter vehicle auction to complement our main vehicle auction at Round-Up in September,” said Angela Moody, Arrowhead CEO. “This allows people who donate vehicles between Round-Up and December 31st to enjoy the tax benefits for that year.”

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the auction will begin at 10:00. Photo ID is required for registration. An Illinois title agency will be present.

Funds generated from the vehicle auction help to support Arrowhead’s work with adolescent boys and girls. Arrowhead provides residential treatment for youth-at-risk, as well as community outreach in the Quad Cities and surrounding areas.

Arrowhead residents learn auto maintenance and repair as part of their educational program. The William E. Nelson Auto Shop is a state-of-the-art facility located on Arrowhead’s campus. Residents gain valuable experience by working with instructors to prepare donated vehicles for auction. They perform routine maintenance, make minor repairs and detail the vehicles.

Vehicles to be auctioned can be viewed at http://www.arrowheadranchinc.com/evt_cars.aspx.

To donate a car, boat or other vehicle, call (309)799-7044, ext 225. Vehicle donations are tax-deductible

Founded in 1945, Arrowhead is a private, not-for-profit, non-sectarian treatment facility serving youth-at-risk age 12 to 21 years. Its mission is to motivate youth-at-risk to become productive and responsible young men and women by providing the highest quality counseling, education and social services to youth and their families.
