Mitchell International Partners with Thatcham to Provide Independently ... - dBusinessNews.com Posted: 12 Aug 2009 10:33 AM PDT Los Angeles - Mitchell Information Center empowers repairers and estimators with industry's most comprehensive set of repair standards for increased accuracy, efficiency and safety
Today's modern vehicles are increasingly unique and very much individual in their design. Each model year vehicle manufacturers add sophisticated technology to improve structural strength. While these advancements result in improved vehicle safety, cars have consequently become much more difficult to return to pre-accident condition, posing unique repair challenges. Thatcham's online solution, ThatchamNet, works in concert and complements Mitchell Information Center's OEM repair data, to provide technicians with the critical collision repair information they need to keep up with the industry's increasing demands. Thatcham's collision experts' methodology includes tearing down the latest vehicles in their UK-based technical research center to completely understand vehicle construction and devise pragmatic repair techniques that replicate the strength and integrity of the original construction. Thatcham's research team works very closely with both vehicle manufacturers to "design in" reparability and the collision repair industry to enable shops to repair high-tech vehicles with complete confidence. "Mitchell's partnership with Thatcham brings our customers unprecedented coverage of collision repair content, especially for complex, difficult to repair European and Asian market models. At the touch of a finger, our customers will be able to go online to the Mitchell Information Center and instantly identify the critical information they need to be able to safely and efficiently restore vehicles to pre-accident condition," said Marc Brungger, Executive Vice President of Auto Physical Damage for Mitchell International. "With this new partnership, we will be the first to introduce the North American market to repair procedures that are both independently researched and OEM backed, and we are very pleased to have Thatcham's world-class research experts on our team," added Brungger. Peter Roberts, Thatcham Chief Executive, says, "Repairers have frequently asked us to bring our collision methodologies to North America. However, it was important for us to partner with an established marketplace leader that is well respected throughout the industry, with a solid track record for bringing innovative solutions to the marketplace. Having worked closely with the Mitchell International for over a year, the Thatcham Team is confident that we have found the best solution provider to bring ThatchamNet to the North American market."

VW HR Manager Says Local Auto Plant "Just Passing The Starting Line ... - Chattanoogan Posted: 12 Aug 2009 11:45 AM PDT
VW HR Manager Says Local Auto Plant "Just Passing The Starting Line" On Hirings posted August 12, 2009The general manager of the Volkswagen plant that is under construction in Chattanooga said the firm is "just passing the starting line" on hiring. Ryan Rose told members of the Chattanooga Association of Realtors and the Home Builders Association that only about five percent of the more than 2,000-person workforce has been hired thus far. Mr. Rose, at the luncheon Wednesday at the Chattanooga Choo Choo, said there are four main waves of hiring.
He said the first includes salaried professionals in such jobs as engineer, quality engineer, purchasing, IT, finance and human resources. The speaker said in that hiring "we continue to get more and more locally." He said there have been more Tennessee hires than from any other state. Mr. Rose said some employees have been hired to work in Germany on the prototype of the new mid-sized sedan for the American market that will be built in Chattanooga. Next to be hired will be skilled maintenance workers who will be able to repair the complex equipment and robots at the plant. He said VW will start taking applications in that category in late summer or early fall and will begin hiring at the end of the year. For the actual production team, Mr. Rose said applications will be taken this fall and hiring will start early next year. He said applications will be taken in a variety of ways, including at career centers and online. He said VW will be gathering basic information from the applicants, including what are their job skills and what work they enjoy doing. The speaker said the application will include a "very hands on" step in which applicants will be placed in front of a car, given instructions, and asked to follow the steps given for vehicle assembly. He said applicants will be graded on the ability to read instructions and attention to details. Mr. Rose, who earlier worked for General Motors and helped launch new plants in Indiana and Texas, said, "It's not a pen-and-paper kind of process, and it's not a pen-and-paper kind of job." He said top candidates will be invited for interviews, then may be given conditional hire notices. He said they will go through pre-hire training, then some will be given formal job offers. Mr. Rose, who has bought a home in Ooltewah, said the plant, which is the only VW facility in the U.S., will initially produce 150,000 vehicles per year. He said the three main buildings now under construction at the Enterprise South Industrial Park will have 1.9 million square feet.
He said the plant is on schedule for the start of production in early 2011.
