Midland man charged with threatening federal worker - Ledger-Enquirer Posted: 11 Aug 2009 03:39 AM PDT That led local FBI agents and Harward to begin an investigation into Hale, which included a search warrant being served at 1285 Central Church Road in Midland, according to an FBI release. Hale and his wife own the property, Harward said. "Mr. Hale's statement that he intended to kill everyone up at the office implies that he may have access to weapons," the agent stated. "I can't elaborate too much," said FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett about the case. "In light of the recent shooting in Pittsburgh and the shooting that occurred at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., these types of threats are certainly being taken seriously by the FBI. Mr. Hale will certainly have his day in court." Hale was arrested Friday at his auto shop, American Tire & Automotive Center, 5427 Veterans Parkway, the affidavit and FBI release stated. During their investigation, agents also discovered that a search warrant was served on Hale in 2003 at his auto repair shop, according to the affidavit. A 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a .38-caliber revolver were found during that search, Harward said. In December 2004, Hale pleaded guilty to distribution of cocaine and was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison, given a $2,000 fine and declared ineligible for federal benefits for five years, Harward said. Hale was under supervised release in June, when a probation officer noted that Hale was under "mental distress," Harward stated. On July 7, Hale told a probation officer that the "thought of being under supervised release made him a nervous wreck," Harward wrote. Hale served in the Army and is a veteran of the 1991 Persian Gulf War. He suffers from continual back pain, has been treated for anxiety and depression and has been through anger management, Harward said. Hale is being held in the Muscogee County Jail. His initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate G. Mallon Faircloth is scheduled for 4 p.m. today. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Vikrant Anand Gupta, ET Bureau - Economic Times Posted: 11 Aug 2009 04:00 AM PDT Vikrant Anand Gupta, ET Bureau At a time when motown customers are facing heat over high fuel prices and soaring interest rates, shouldn't they strive to extract every penny they spend on their automobile purchase? Valid question, you may say, but most customers choose to ignore an important component while purchasing a vehicle — motor insurance. They just consider it a legal requirement without which they can't bring their new vehicle on road. Indeed, motor insurance is a necessity which covers you against damage to your own vehicle and damage to the third party. Broadly, there are two types of auto insurance — comprehensive policy and third party insurance. In comprehensive insurance, you get full cover for every possible damage, including dents, technical problems, repair, accidents and even for car theft. Captain of German piracy ship back home, crew to follow - Monsters and Critics Posted: 11 Aug 2009 04:29 AM PDT
Krzysztof Kotiuk, the captain of the Hansa Stavanger, landed in Munich where he was met by friends and family, before joining police for questioning. Alongside five Germans, twelve crew members the pacific island of Tuvalu, three from Russia, two Ukrainians and two seamen from the Philippines were all expected to arrive home after their four-month ordeal. The container vessel is docked in the Kenyan port of Mombasa, after its Hamburg-based owners paid a 2.1-million-euro (3-million-dollar) ransom for its release. German federal criminal police were to continue looking for fingerprints and DNA traces on board the ship for two more days, said a spokesman for prosecutors in Hamburg. The ship was seized by pirates on April 4, roughly 400 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia. After undergoing intensive repair work, Hansa Stavanger is to return to the pirate-riddled trade route through the Gulf of Aden under the stewardship of a new captain.
